Spring is here!

Did you know that as your self-confidence goes up so does your happiness level?

I think they really go hand in hand I don’t think you can really be happy if you don’t have confidence and you can’t have confidence with ending up being happy.

Today was such a beautiful spring day I couldn’t help but be happy, and I got to go out so it was a good day.

What did you do today? Did it help your self-confidence?

what’s your favorite season?

"The beautiful spring came; and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also."

-Harriet Ann Jacobs

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”

Anne Bradstreet

make careful choices

"Rest when you’re weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work."

-Ralph Marston

"Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come."

-Robert H. Schuller

Happy Spring!!!

Happy Spring!!

I almost feel weird saying that with snow on the ground. I love the promise of renewal that spring brings, I guess that’s why it’s my favorite season. Today’s picture is in honor of my grandma, and my mom, gladiolus were my grandma’s favorite flower and yellow my mom’s favorite color.

"Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!"’

-Robin Williams

"They say it’s better to bury your sadness in a graveyard or garden that waits for the spring to wake from its sleep and burst into green."

quote of the day

“Climb High, Climb Far. Your goal: the sky, Your aim: the star.”

~Hopkins memorial steps, Williams College~

"If what you are doing is not moving you towards your goals,

then it’s moving you away from your goals."

–Brian Tracy

quote of the day

"Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems."

-Rainer Maria Rilke

"Earth teach me to forget myself as melted snow forgets its life. Earth teach me resignation as the leaves which die in the fall. Earth teach me courage as the tree which stands all alone. Earth teach me regeneration as the seed which rises in the spring."

-William Alexander

daily practice?

Spring is a time of renewal, but today’s quotes remind us that we still need to take time to be quiet so our mind has time to refresh and renew. Last week I talked about meditation and told you that I started meditating. I am happy to tell you that I have only missed 1 day since I started and my blood pressure has come down and I have been in a much better mood. All of this after just one week of meditating. I have not started the second meditation yet like I would like to, maybe next week, I want to make sure I set myself up for success. That is important. When starting something new you need to make it easy for you to succeed and that way you will stick to it. I have many meditations. The one I chose I really like so I have continued with the same one. If I did not enjoy the one I started with I would have kept looking for a meditation until I found one that I liked. The meditation I am doing is called Zen12 and they say you get an hour of meditation in 12 minutes. I like the music, and I like how I feel after that is way I continue using this meditation.

quote of the day

"We need quiet time to examine our lives openly and honestly – spending quiet time alone gives your mind an opportunity to renew itself and create order."

-Susan L. Taylor

"Life stands before me like an eternal spring with new and brilliant clothes."

  • Carl Friedrich Gauss

"We cannot stop the winter or the summer from coming. We cannot stop the spring or the fall or make them other than they are. They are gifts from the universe that we cannot refuse. But we can choose what we will contribute to life when each arrives."

So what is your favorite season? Have you guessed that spring is mine? I have just always liked the sense of renewal that it brings. Even now that I am blind I can smell the freshness in the air. I love the promise that spring brings, it just gives me extra energy. The interesting thing is when I was becoming disabled it started in March and continued until Labor Day, so that spring I had a lot of pain, but I also had the hope that spring generally brings. I no longer see color. I’m not really sure when I lost color, I think maybe sometime in May of that year, but as I look back I am so happy that the last season I got to see was spring.

I think this morning’s quotes are great for people that are newly disabled. It reminds us that we need to take care of ourselves and that it is okay to rest. If you are feeling tired take a break, yes you need to push yourself a little bit to get stronger, but you also need to know when to rest. I keep hearing about napping and how some companies are allowing people to nap at work. I think they do that at the Huffington Post! I take a nap almost every afternoon right now. I know I tell you that just because you are disabled you are the same person you have always been and that is true, but you body is not the same so you may physically need different things at different times. Also if you are having a bad day please do not make any big decisions as the second quote says. Wait until you are feeling better so you can have a renewed look at the situation. With the beautiful weather that spring brings with it and all the wonderful fresh air try to get outside you will feel so renewed and uplifted when afterwards.
