"In their daily life, all are braver than they know."
-Henry David Thoreau
"Let me fall. Let me climb. There’s a moment where fear and dream must collide."
Lyrics from Let Me Fall – collaboration between Josh Groban and Cirque du Soleil
I think we are going to start something new on Sundays. Starting today I will take whatever the theme of the week is and break it down and give each letter a meaning and I’ll write a little about the word associated with each word. This week’s theme has been
FEAR so here we go…
F – I could take the easy way and say Fear, but what about Freedom? We have been talking about fear all week, so let’s look at how F can stand for Freedom. When you first become disabled it is a huge change, I know from experience. But then it is weirdly freeing if you think about it. You have freedom from what people expect you to do or how they think you should dress etc. You have so much more freedom, because you are now “disabled”. I love to speak my mind more because I can’t see people’s reactions, so for me that is how I personally feel being blind is freeing.
E – Encourage, I am not going to sit here and lie to you that things are going to be easy or you will get things handed to you. Sometimes you will need to encourage yourself and I hope you will have people around you that will encourage you to do more that you are doing, especially when you first become disabled. Encouragement is a big thing so try to surround yourself with people that will help you and encourage you.
A – Accept, you will need to learn to accept that you are now disabled. Disability comes with many different emotions and one thing that is very important for you to remember is that whatever emotion you are having it is okay, just feel into it.
R – Resilient, there are so many words that start with R, but I chose Resilient because if you can find a way to bounce back and learn to live with your disability you will be a much happier person.
I would love to know what words you come up for FEAR, post them below in the comments and let’s see how many different words we can come up with!
